Emmett Williams – Voice Piece for La Monte Young (1962)

At its height of activity, Emmett Williams was one of the most prominent members of Fluxus. Sadly history hasn’t been kind, largely vanquishing him to the shadows. Mostly know for his poetry and its performance, during the 1960 he also headed the European arm of Fluxus activists. Voice Piece for La Monte Young is a classic work Fluxus conceptualism – filled with wry humor and paradox. Even the title implies an impossibility. The work was originally included in Fluxyearbox 1. I hope it brings a crinkled brow and a chuckle into your day.
